BRAZILIAN BEER - PERFECT FOR THE HOT CLIMATE
One thing that you will probably notice in Brazil,is that the Brazilian beers are perfectly suited for the hot climate and abundant sunshine. Light and crisp, the pilsener beers abound in Brazil. Skol, Antarctica, Brahma, Bohemia, Itaipava, are some of the more popular labels. Most are actually owned by the same brewing company but a lot of Brazilians swear that there is definitely a difference. Skol definitely seems to be number one though. If you are at an event like Carnaval for example there will likely be every man, his wife and sons with an icebox full of Skols. Ask for "um Skol estupidamente geladissima" (an extremely, stupidly cold Skol) and see how quick it takes you to get served! You won't even have taken your wallet out of your pocket before the whole crowd decends upon you with an offering of a nice icy cold Skol. Bohemia is a slightly more expensive beer than the general offerings to the masses, but it is well worth the extra expense as you will agree especially if drinking without restraint. You will feel much better the next day after a night drinking Bohemia than other beers of a lesser standard.
So what to do when you arrive in Brazil? Well, assuming you came to Brazil because there is plenty of sunshine and great beaches; grab your sunga (tight little speedos for the men) surfshorts or bikini, head down to the nearest stretch of sand, hire a beach chair and umbrella and then sit back and relax. You don't have to do anything. If you want a drink there will be plenty of people hovering around to satisfy your requests for uma cerveja gelada, geladissima (or estupidamente geladissima if you like your beer really really cold).. And if you've read this far and don't like beer, well you can always ask for "uma agua de coco" (water from green coconut) to sip on or some "suco de limão" - a refreshing lime juice drink, also good between beers to keep youself hydrated. Oh, but the sunshine and the beach are just the perfect combo for drinking cold beers. Maybe that's why nearly all the beer ads in Brazil revolve around sexy people having fun at the beach. Sticking to the basics for selling beer!
